A Light from Within, The eBook

A Light from Within

"This book fills a much-needed gap."

Attributed to Moses Hadas

I studied Latin under the late Professor Myroslav Borysiuk, a larger-than-life teacher in the European tradition. With voice booming, he would criss-cross the front of the classroom stomping with his heavy shoes the cadences of Virgil’s Aeneid until we pupils could mutter the dactylic hexameter in our sleep. I still hold the opening lines in my memory:

AR-ma vir-UM-um-que ca-NO Tro-IAE qui PRI-mus ab OR-is …

At the time, Moses Hadas was a Classics scholar at Columbia University. Professor Borysiuk’s 15 minutes of fame came when Hadas praised him in a Newsweek magazine interview as a star student who had submitted his doctoral dissertation written completely in Latin.

From this sublime heritage I find myself today, with booming voice, imposing on you, Gentle Reader, this crass and commercial plea:

Buy my new ebook!

Buy one as a convenient and economical ($3.99) present for each of the people on your gift-giving list!

Buy my book so you can tell people that you know the author!

As you can see from the photo above, it’s called A Light from Within.

Its 52 stories capture a year in the paradise locales of Cape Cod and Vieques Island--something like A Year in Provence.

The ebook is based on my “Paradise Diaries” blog essays, updated and categorized under the title A Light from Within.

I write about the odd and the ordinary, the exceptional and the unexpected, the humorous and the sober--the smallish moments of our lives that seem commonplace until they are examined under a new lens. To quote from the book: “When I lived my life the first time, there were many things I didn’t notice. It was only in replaying scenes that I had the aha moments.”

The common denominator is the people who are at the heart of almost every story. The people I write about possess their own special light, which has shone upon and brightened my own life.

As Elisabeth Kubler-Ross said--whom I quote in the story, “Queen of the Fairies:”

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
