Everyday Dishes

In the passion of new love, minds and bodies and souls blend, as portrayed in this painting by Leonid Afremov. We expect to feel like this all the time, resulting in inevitable disillusion. But after the flames have given way to the everyday, like a drug, we crave our next hit.

Everyday dishes

venous here and there chips

drabbled by much machine washing

but sturdy still

familiar to her fingers

Secondhand dishes

unabashed so many before had

sopped yolks swabbed menorrheal

jus of beef

thick coffee in thick mugs

New dishes

occasionally catch her eye and

neatly acquired kept aside set solely

for delicate occasions

hand wash only of course
